Bicycle-Inspired Kinetics in Elementary Schools

B.I.K.E.S. with Professional Cyclist Ben Chaddock

My Passion

Boise 2012: Courtesty MFS
Hello, my name is Ben Chaddock and I live to connect and inspire those in my community. What started as a single bicycle safety rodeo for Kay Barga’s grade two class at Edison Elementary in Walla Walla, Washington in 2008 has undergone a five year metamorphosis into Bicycle-Inspired Kinetics in Elementary Schools. Combining the personal accounts of my professional cycling career with academic insights from professional guest speakers centered upon environmental and economic issues, I aim to develop BIKES 2013 into a learning and inspirational tool for elementary school classes in locations within North America where I train and compete.

The Toque Torque Experience: By Don Harlan

To sum it up; “The Coach Who Cares”!  Every thing I read said to find a coach who cares.  Where else will you find a coach who cares about an OLD Masters rookie, has the patience to coach a novice, reads every training note you care to write, provides a weekly one on one personal training review, offers a comprehensive training philosophy and all the training plans, logs, gym workouts, stretching exercises, general health articles etc, etc etc:  It’s a long list.  And; do all of that while having a fantastic 2012 season and becoming the Canadian National Crit Champion -- That would be “Coach” Ben Chaddock, Toque Torque Cycling!

Boise Exergy Twilight: July 14th 2012.

If we don't win,....well I don't want to think about that. All that matters is that we put on the biggest show the Exergy Twilight race has ever seen. We just need to get it done. Whether than means we have to put ourselves in harms way, give so much that it'll take days to recover, or pour everything into split-second decisions made with limited information, now is the time. Today is the day that the team's been planning for, talking about and also dreading since the first day at training camp. Today is Team Exergy's home criterium race in Boise, Idaho, now sponsored by the team's title sponsor Exergy Development Group.

Genetic Roulette

Over the past two years I have changed my diet considerably but in November of 2011, I took it to another level. Since then my general health and asthma has improved dramatically. In that time, I have become a student of human physiology, agricultural biology and corporate agricultural economics.

Offseason Recharge

Beets, Watermelon, Steamed Kale = Nutrient High!
The twilight of the road season will come to an end over the next few weeks and with it a lot of updated blogs from cyclists.  It is too late for me to really fill everyone in on my season, but needless to say, the races that I blogged about went pretty well, while those who went under the 'blog-radar' were a little less satisfying. So instead I'd like to turn our attention to the future and help you all make gains in your general health as a continued part of my Toque Toast series here at Cyclinginatoque.

Toque Torque Coaching: 2013

So with Gran Fondo season winding down and the leaves starting to fall, you might still be enjoying some of that 'super form' you experienced during your fondo adventures.  If so, nothing beats the effortless pedaling sensation of peak fitness, especially when free of pre-event performance anxiety.   But if your summer training and Gran Fondo experience didn't work out as well as you hoped, have you considered working with a personal coach?

2012 Canadian Track Nationals

Sun sets on 2012 racing
Well that didn't go as well as I hoped! This week's 2-day Omnium event was the first real disappointing event of racing for me this entire season so I guess it's a sign that it's time to shut it down for the year. Of course that was the plan but it would have been nice to experience some good sensations for just one more week; last week in Quebec City at the Pro Sprint Challenge I felt on the top of my game.
