Thunderous Call Ups

Gastown GP
December 11th, 2011:  After a long but "interesting" day on the Greyhound bus, I arrived back in Canada after 2.5 months of hard zone 2 training in Walla Walla, Washington. Although not quite home, staying the night in Vancouver on a friend's couch, I head down to the coffee shop to find some internet.  Breathing in the fresh winter air and squinting against the rising but low-angled sun, my 'greyhound' lungs clear and my eyes gently tear.  Starting to feel human again now two days after my last real training session, I'm optimistic that I can bounce back from tomorrow's dental surgery. It will be an operation that will pull me off the bike for 3 weeks, an operation that has single-handedly structured my entire off-season. My career depends how well I come back from tomorrow and how efficiently I can regain my fitness in January.

BIKES: Episode #2

Science World
Alright so it's week two here at BIKES and this past week has been a great one! I'm in the midst of locking down the new schools for my trip back to Canada from December 18th-21st and training is going really well. Some of the students have continued to send in questions after my initial visits so I've added in a question and answer segment for episode 2. Look for more question and answer segments as I try to make my way through all of the great questions I've received. If you are interested in getting your question answers on the next episode, be sure to send in your questions with your teachers.

Toque Torque: New Client Success

It's early December so that means that training is starting to get a little bit more focused. On the coaching side, the last few months have involved a lot of cyclocross work and some weightlifting for my clients at Toque Torque Coaching. I'm happy to share with you some of their recent insight and successes.

Molly and Lizzie @ Marymoor Velodrome
From the collegiate side, Molly and Lizzie got a chance to try out track cycling this summer and have since transitioned into their first experience at cyclocross. Although they have both been busy with senior year, their have been able to find a great balance between their racing and training. Neither of them had no idea that they would love cyclocross as much as they have.

Home Race

Vancouver, BC
I've been extremely fortunate to race at many different venues across North America over the past 3 years, but there is something special when the ones you care about the most are right there on the sidelines. Instead of guestimating the intensity of the closing laps, the thunderousness of the crowd's cacophony, or the oppressive heat of the sun through the wonderful albeit stifled experience that is online-streaming and/or television coverage, a home race provides the chance to connect and translate just how amazingly complex and interesting this whole sporting thing can be. It makes you want to push the limits even further.

BIKES: Episode #1

Sharpstein Elementary: 2 Assemblies + 2 Hrs = 470 Students!
So after a few rough weeks following a training crash during my first few days here in Palo Alto (concussion and stitches), I'm super stoked to release the first few video updates for the 2013 BIKES campaign. After a great run through Washington and Idaho in October, and with 4-5 more schools scheduled for my December trip back to Canada, total enrollment is already over 1200 students!
